Mice

House Mice are a common pest in UK homes and will cause damage to food products, electrical wiring and pipes due to their constant gnawing and sporadic feeding habits. A House Mouse can fit through a 6-7mm hole, the same diameter as a ball point pen.

Wood Mice ( or Field Mice ) can enter homes through gaps around the exterior of the building such as vents or around pipework. They are usually found in rural areas and are only controlled if they are entering or causing damage to properties.

Rats

Brown rats are omnivores and will eat almost anything they come across ( even eachother ! ). They are also known as the sewer rat and as the name suggests, their main habitat is the sewer system running under our homes and businesses. A rat infestation in your home is most likely coming from the sewers. Broken, dislodged or uncapped pipes can allow rats access under your property and into your wall cavities.

Black rats are uncommon in the UK but can be found around ports as they are brought in by ships.

Grey Squirrels

Grey squirrels are a non native species in the United Kingdom and cause damage to trees and other wildlife such as the native Red Squirrel. The Red Squirrel is protected and is not classed as a pest.

Grey Squirrels can enter homes through gaps in rooftops or eaves, once inside a loft space they will build a nest and scavenge for food during the day. They will cause the most disruption in the evenings and early hours of the morning once they have come back to the nest, squirrels are known to cause a large amount of damage to wood and wiring due to their constant gnawing.
